Steve and Mary Beth have been active members in Mt Bethel United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Steve started coming to Honduras in 2002 traveling with a team from Mt Bethel through HOI. In 2012, Mt Bethel UMC had their first trip to Orphanage Emmanuel and MaryBeth and Steve were members of this team. Steve became the team leader in 2015 and has served in this capacity for the past 4 trips.
They immediately heard God speak to them and on their return became very involved with the monthly container packs out of Chattanooga, TN. They returned in February 2013 with the Red Bank Baptist team and served with them every year for three weeks since then.
In February 2018 MaryBeth retired from AT&T, so the plan was for a short-term volunteer service for three months in March 2018. God had other plans for them as they quickly were assimilated into staff. Mary Beth oversees the Comedor (Dining Hall and Kitchen) in preparing and serving all the children’s meals daily. Steve is the Facilities Manager and works with teams once they arrive at the airport and throughout their stay.
Steve’s favorite part about serving at Emmanuel is building relationships with the children here and the loving family community atmosphere. Mary Beth’s favorite part about serving at Emmanuel is how it brings out the best in her and how it showing her God’s love, trust, and faith in everything that occurs at Emmanuel.
